INTRODUCTION TO FOREST SCHOOL
This course gives participants the opportunity to find out about Forest School, learn about the benefits of the approach and gain some practical ideas.
The course is flexible in nature and is designed to meet the needs of the group. It can be a 2 hour session or a full day course. It is run from a woodland location but classroom elements can be incorporated too, particularly if it's a full day course.

Open College Network accredited Forest School Courses
FOREST SCHOOL LEADER LEVEL 3
This course is the nationally recognised level of training required to lead Forest School sessions.
There are 3 units of study:
- Practical Skills and Woodland Management – understand the management of woodlands as a learning resource – learn to teach a range of woodland skills including the use of tools and rope, building shelters and managing camp fires.
- Learning and Development – understand how theories of learning and development apply to Forest School and outdoor learning - understand how Forest School promotes holistic development and learning.
- Delivering a Forest School Programme - plan, deliver and evaluate a six session Forest School programme, observe and evaluate the impact of the experience on a small group of children - develop a health and safety document comprising policies, procedures and risk assessments.
Each student will be given a portfolio with assignments to work through during the course. As a guide there will be an additional 60 hours of study required in addition to the course days. Training takes place both in a classroom and outdoors at the venue, appropriate outdoor clothing and a pair of safety boots will be required.

FOREST SCHOOL ASSISTANT LEVEL 2
This course is for anyone who would like to qualify as a Forest School Assistant and assist a Forest School Leader. It involves 3 days training (practice and theory), supporting a qualified Level 3 Forest School Leader for 3 sessions (arranged by yourself), completion of some written course work and 2 days practical skills assessment.
Training takes place in a classroom and woodland location. Appropriate outdoor footwear and clothing is required.

OCNYHR operates under licence from the national awarding body National Open College Network. North Yorkshire Forest School Training is a recognised Open College Network Centre with systems and practices being regularly monitored by OCN to ensure standards in quality assurance are met.
